About this blog

This weblog was originally begun as a place to deal with writings, news, and thoughts related to my dissertation. The title given to this blog originally was the neologism around which my dissertation is based, the concept of deathpower – the social power that comes from certain types of interaction with death.

Much of the content on this blog will continue to revolve around my dissertation work. I’m not done with it yet, though I hope to finish in the next academic year.

However, the content of the posts here have quickly exceeded the rather narrow initial mandate. Rather than scale back, I have decided to rethink the weblog as a whole, and am now more comfortable with the idea that this weblog may serve as a larger window into my views on the world.

To that extent, I will also be blogging about other aspects of my professional life, including thoughts about teaching, being a new faculty member, and transitioning from the position of student to that of teacher. As with all new academics, I will face new challenges of organization, pedagogy, balancing personal and family needs, and integration with my community activities.
